The coral reefs offer a wide variety of soft and hard coral species. The 3-kilometer-long reef extends from north to south, creating two distinct sites: North and South. Along the reef wall, there is a sandy plateau, initially narrow but gradually widening as you move southward. The plateau ends with a deep wall.

The reef is known for its diverse marine life, including an array of butterflyfish, various species of moray eels, scorpionfish, and octopuses hidden within the walls.
El Fanadir is also known for its good visibility and water temperature, making it an attractive diving location throughout the year.

The reef is also suitable for night dives, where you may encounter the large Spanish Dancer and many other fascinating creatures.

El Fanadir is situated to the north of central Hurghada and is renowned for its diverse coral reefs and rich marine life. This spot is suitable for divers of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced.

Feeding marine creatures disrupts the balance of the natural environment, so we kindly ask you to refrain from it.

The island of Small Giftun is part of a national park. Various types of dives can be done around, but the most eye-catching one is the drift dive.

The drift begins over a deep wall just beyond the police station building on the island. We swim and sometimes ride with the stream at an optimal depth 25 meters, while along the way, we admire the huge gorgonian fans growing on the wall.

Additionally, you'll encounter a variety of species in these waters, including blue spotted rays, painted triggerfish, and crocodile fish. As you venture to the drop-off, be on the lookout for turtles, jackfish, and in the early morning, your chances of encountering sharks are quite high. However, in September, be cautious of titan triggerfish.

A little further down from where we would start the drift is a site called Erg Somaya. Anchoring at this location is advisable only during favourable weather conditions, as strong streams are a frequent occurrence. However, the site's offerings make it worthwhile. Right beneath your boat, the reef plummets to significant depths, and at around 32 meters, you'll encounter a towering chimney adorned with soft corals.
The entire reef is characterized by its rugged terrain, teeming with diverse coral species and an array of fish. It's a common occurrence to spot turtles in these waters as well.

Sea conditions: Sometimes the water near the drop-in point can get choppy, but your boat will be waiting in the calm moorings, close to the blue lagoon. The current always flows from the north, but it can be unpredictable, ranging from mild to howling.

Perfect place and one of the most famous dive sites in the Red Sea, especially for snorkelling! The sandy bottom covered in seagrass dominates the entire central bay. It's in these waters that sea turtles often "graze," typically the Green Sea Turtles.

You'll find the most of them here in the morning (until around 10 o'clock), before the arrival of tourists and excursions. Apart from the turtles, you can spot a variety of other species - large butterflyfish, guitar sharks, and scorpion fish. Occasionally, even a dugong, known as a sea cow, pays a rare visit here.

The depth in the bay reaches up to 25 meters in the more distant areas. At the coral reefs on the sides of the bay, the sea is about 10 to 12 meters deep.

The small oval-shaped reef with sandy ground at a depth of 12-15 meters is also known as the Aquarium. To the west, you can find two large ergs, while to the east, there are 2 coral blocks and a beautiful coral garden.

The area is home to yellow fish, bannerfish, blue-cheek butterflies, masked butterflies, yellow snapper, and goatfish. You can see small white tip reef sharks, eagle rays, or leopard sharks there.

Reviews

I couldn't have asked for more. Gelgel never disappointed me. His organization and service were outstanding, with meticulous attention to every detail from morning pickup at the hotel, through boat preparations and briefings, the diving experience, to the end of the day. Often, we would head to the city center afterward to enjoy meals at excellent fish or oriental restaurants in Hurghada, or relax at bars and lounges in the Marina with fellow divers and friends.
